"I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit."
— John 15:5 (the inspiration behind the name Heart & Vine)

Where Faith & Evidence-Based Care Meet

At Heart & Vine Counseling, my Christian faith quietly shapes how I see every person who walks through my door: created with purpose, deeply loved, and never beyond hope. The name Heart & Vine comes from John 15 — a reminder that we're not meant to do life, or healing, on our own.

For clients who want it, I offer faith-integrated counseling — therapy that takes your spiritual life seriously as part of your overall wellbeing. This might look like incorporating prayer, exploring Scripture, processing religious trauma, or simply having a therapist who understands the language of faith and doesn't ask you to leave that part of yourself at the door.

All beliefs welcomed. Faith integration is always optional and client-led. If you don't share my faith background, you'll still find the same warmth, the same quality care, and the same commitment to your healing. You'll never be pressured to share or adopt my beliefs.

What Faith Integration Can Look Like

🙏

Prayer in Sessions

Opening or closing sessions with prayer, if you'd like. Exploring how prayer and contemplative practices support emotional health.

📖

Scripture & Spiritual Texts

Drawing on Scripture as a source of comfort, wisdom, or reframing — when it's relevant and meaningful to you.

Faith Questions & Doubts

A safe space to wrestle with hard questions about God, suffering, identity, and what you believe — without judgment.

💔

Religious Trauma

Compassionate support for those who have been hurt by religious communities, legalism, or spiritual abuse.

🌿

Meaning & Purpose

Exploring how your faith shapes your sense of meaning, calling, and identity — and how that connects to healing.

🧠

Faith + DBT Integration

Connecting DBT principles like radical acceptance and mindfulness to their resonances in Christian faith and practice.

What Makes Heart & Vine Different

Many faith-based counselors offer either good theology or good therapy — but not always both. At Heart & Vine, I'm committed to both. I hold a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Drake University and use evidence-based approaches like DBT and Positive Psychology. My faith informs my values and my view of people — but it doesn't replace clinical training or best practices.

I'm also deeply aware that some clients have been hurt by religious communities or religious counseling. If that's your story, I want you to know: you're safe here. I will never use faith as a tool to dismiss your pain, rush your healing, or tell you what you "should" feel. Your experience is valid, and your pace is respected.
