Licensed Mental Health Counselor · DBT Specialist · Faith-Based Therapist · Colfax, Iowa
Schedule a ConsultationHi, I'm Adrian.
I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and the founder of Heart & Vine Counseling and Wellness in Iowa. I provide individual counseling for children and teens (ages 10+) and adults, with a special passion for walking alongside teens and young adults as they navigate identity, life transitions, trauma, and faith.
The name Heart & Vine comes from John 15, where Jesus calls Himself the Vine and God the Gardener — a picture that reminds me we're not meant to do life, or healing, on our own. Whether or not faith is part of your story, you'll find a warm, nonjudgmental space here.
This Positive Psychology philosophy is at the core of Heart & Vine Counseling — intentionally adding positives to counterbalance life's challenges.
How I Work
My primary therapy approach is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), with a strong emphasis on grounding and practical coping skills.
Calming Your Nervous System
Practical grounding skills to help your body settle when it's on high alert.
Riding Big Emotions
Learning to feel difficult emotions without shutting down or blowing up.
Organizing Racing Thoughts
Tools to make sense of the mental noise so it feels less chaotic.
Building Real-Life Skills
Skills you can actually use at school, work, home, and in relationships.
Who I Work With
My Background
I earned my B.S. in Psychology from Iowa State University in 2017 and my M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Drake University in 2023.
